Grampian famously took to the generic look of ITV in 1989, using it from its first - to very last day on Oct. 4th 1998.  They were one of few regions to use the idents specially commissioned to collaborate ITV in a unified look.

In addition to the main ident, menu slides and "next" captions were also created.  These were extensively used by Grampian throughout its era.

Continuity

Throughout this period (and previously), Grampian were masters at in-vision continuity.  Many, many continuity announcers were used with many, many different styles at giving the personal touch to the North Scotland viewers.  Here are just a few examples of some familiar faces!

All of these announcers at one time also had to read the local news at some point....

North Tonight was Grampian's flagship news programme in the 1990's.  This example is a promo from the early 90's

Grampian also fell victim to weather sponsorship in the early 1990's (as we all did!) with Legal & General.

Oct 5th 1998 - Feb 27th 2000

Grampian had to look to new pastures after the ITV Generic look was ditched in 1998.  There new ident was a tilted version of the long standing St. Andrew's Cross (Scottish Flag) introduced in 1992.  Here are a couple of stills from Christmas 1995 showing how Grampian have got an imagination to creating a brand image!

This style was then brought back to life by Grampian on Oct. 5th 1998 for two years whilst its parent company SMG were developing a "generic" branding between its two ITV stations.

Feb 28th 2000 - Jan. 5th 2003

Nowadays, Grampian have joined forces with Scottish Television to provide Scotland with a wide range of programmes.  This is reflected in their on-screen look which is now generic between the two companies.

Lining up with the National ITV1 style, Grampian still in its little box.

These were the last set of idents for Grampian Televison.  On May 30th 2006, its parent company SMG plc unveiled a unified look for Scotland under the banner "stv".  All future idents connected to Grampian. can be found on our Scottish Television pages.
